What is a cool, recent networking topic for a paper?

I have to write a 6-8 page paper on a networking topic of my choice. It has to be something that is rather recent in networking, like since 2008. Also, I'd like it to be something interesting, since I have to write a paper on it =P I'm coming up short on ideas. Any suggestions?

The hottest things in networking are

Voip/telephony

IPv6

Personally I'd write about IPv6. There's a lot to write about. For an example, you could write about how the current 32 bit ip address came about, explosion of the web, how the world is running out of IPv4 address, IPv6, etc.

I think you could easy on 6-8 pages if you had to, if not more. What is a cool, recent networking topic for a paper?

I want to create a social networking site. What's the best social networking tool to use to create one?

Can anyone list the best tools (ie. easy, user-friendly, and diversity add-ons) to creating a social networking site?

How about the best (secured, and cost effective) database servers? I am in Australia but I have heard of people using database servers based in the U.S. simply because it is cheaper than the database servers in Australia.I want to create a social networking site. What's the best social networking tool to use to create one?
Haha! You use programming languages to create a website, not a tool.

Master the following... XHTML, PHP, Javascript, CSS. Only then can you create the next big SNS.

EDIT: Things like WordPress and Dreamweaver will only get you so far. This is like asking someone how to make the next lamborghini or the next mobile phone, you see the problem.I want to create a social networking site. What's the best social networking tool to use to create one?
Another dreamer...
1. There are NO "web-maker", NO "script" to make a GOOD social network: you write your own, using proper coding techniques.
All "offers" of SN are crap and go nowhere.
2. There are about 1,234,567 attempted SN on the web nowadays.
NONE work. NONE has more than a few hundred members.
Why?
Because the sites were made "on-the-cheap", and by amateurs.

A good S.N, of whatever kind, requires:
- An ORIGINAL idea: don't try to imitate FB or Twitter (they both spent MILLIONS to get there). Already too many (incompetent and imbecile) copy-cats.
- Excellent programming skills (eliminates 95% of so-called "coders/designers")
- Excellent MARKETING skills (to promote the site)
- Serious financial backup. (That is: a lot of money! If you have less than $20k, forget it: you have absolutely NO chance of getting anywhere).

Conclusion: If your wallet does not contain at least $20k, no advice from me. If it DOES, then contact me! Safe mode with networking does not work on my computer?

I shut down the computer then press f8, when an option comes up I press start safe mode with networking. A few seconds later another screen comes up and says it failed an that I can only start the computer normally. Nothing works when im using the computer, everything is blocked including the alt ctrl delete. Whenever I try to open something it says that the application is infected. What can I do?Safe mode with networking does not work on my computer?
It looks like you have a virus. The latest generation of viruses are smart enough that they don't let you boot into safe mode or access the registry for changing settings. I suggest you follow the instructions about SmitFraudFix.exe (see http://siri.geekstogo.com) or MalwareBytes (see http://www.malwarebytes.org) to get rid of the virus(es) and restore normal operation of your computer.

Follow-up: If you can't boot your system, create a bootable CD with BartPE and Avast on it (see here: http://www.downarchive.com/software/anti鈥?/a>

There's also the possibility of a corrupt registry that prevents the system from booting.

For XP, follow these instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

For Vista, follow these instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windo鈥?/a>Safe mode with networking does not work on my computer?

The good news is businesses share their experience with one another and talk about poor condition at home. But when the spouse finds out he or she has some explaining to do.

How do I unblock social networking sites?

Ok, So I want to unblock social networking sites like facebook, msn, etc. I'm living in a mental health place. But at the same time, I want to make sure it gets reblocked again so no one finds out. Is there anyway I can unblock it and reblock it whenever I want? Oh... and I've tried to use things that will unblock social networking sites... but it turned out they were blocked as well. What should I use and do?How do I unblock social networking sites?
IF the "mental health place" does not block individual users, you could just log-on as somebody who is not blocked [happy hunting!]

=

OR IF the "mental health place" does not block ALL PCs, then just find an unblocked PC [again, happy hunting].

-

IF the "mental health place" assigned you a log-in name, THEN the first suggestion may work, BUT many of those "mental health places" block everybody. How do I unblock social networking sites?
Maybe you should focus on oh I don't know..... your mental health? instead of trying to get into stuff that the facility doesn't think you should be getting into. There's a reason they block sites like that. How do I unblock social networking sites?

  • What is the best way to learn computer networking?

I am not at all savvy on computer networking. I only know how to write, log, surf and download etc. but I have near zero knowledge in networking. Is there a soft ware or hardware that will visually show me step by step to to troubleshoot and basically teach me how to maintain my network running? I prefer visual rather than techically phrased, since I am so stupid in technical terminology.

    Your advice will be appreciated.

RDWhat is the best way to learn computer networking?
It depends on just how far you are wanting to take it. Are you setting up a network for public use, your private web page, or just a home network. A home network is pretty easy and if you buy a router most will have a tech support number with a real person that will guide you the whole way. As for anything more complicated, either take a class or go to half price books and look through the resources.
If you want to learn in LAMENS terms basic networking, go to your local library or bookstore and pickup "networking for dummies".

Computer networking is the scientific and engineering discipline concerned with communication between computer systems. Such networks involve at least two devices capable of being networked with at least one usually being a computer. The devices can be separated by a few meters (e.g. via Bluetooth) or thousands of kilometers (e.g. via the Internet). Computer networking is sometimes considered a sub-discipline of telecommunications.

    History

Carrying instructions between calculation machines and early computers was done by human users. In September, 1940 George Stibitz used a teletype machine to send instructions for a problem set from his Model K at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire to his Complex Number Calculator in New York and received results back by the same means. Linking output systems like teletypes to computers was an interest at the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) when, in 1962, J.C.R. Licklider was hired and developed a working group he called the "Intergalactic Network", a precursor to the ARPANet. In 1964, researchers at Dartmouth developed the Dartmouth Time Sharing System for distributed users of large computer systems. The same year, at MIT, a research group supported by General Electric and Bell Labs used a computer (DEC's PDP-8) to route and manage telephone connections. Throughout 1960s Leonard Kleinrock, Paul Baran and Donald Davies had independently conceptualized and developed network systems consisting of datagrams or packets that could be used in a packet switching network between computer systems. In 1969 the University of California at Los Angeles, SRI (in Stanford), University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah were connected as the beginning of the ARPANet network using 50 kbit/s circuits.

Networks, and the technologies needed to connect and communicate through and between them, continue to drive computer hardware, software, and peripherals industries. This expansion is mirrored by growth in the numbers and types of users of networks from researcher

You are at work and your employer has a policy against social networking..etc. But the suspense is killing you, plus you aren't too busy on this day. WHAT DO YOU DO?What do you do keep yourself from using social networking sites and personal email while at work?

I wouldn't be checking my personal email at work in the first place. And even if I did I certainly wouldn't go to facebook at work. If the company has a policy against these types of sites chances are they have a tracker in place that will automatically alert the boss or whoever is in charge of monitoring if anyone violates policy. What do you do keep yourself from using social networking sites and personal email while at work?
I have pretty much everything in the office that I manage blocked for this reason. It is too easy to get distracted at work when there is work to be done. Personally I use my BlackBerry when I go on break or to lunch.
Where I work, we have firewalls that don't allow access to these types of sites...so the prevention is done FOR me.

An active network is a network in which the nodes are programmed to perform custom operations on the messages that pass through the node. For example, a node could be programmed or customized to handle packets on an individual user basis or to handle multicast packets differently than other packets. Active network approaches are expected to be especially important in networks of mobile users. "Smart packets" use a special self-describing language that allows new kinds of information to be carried within a packet and operated on by a node

    Social networking Phobia, or

socialis commissura phobia (latin, I'm 85% sure this would be the correct phrase), is caused by the fear of posting something online and then having your posts or photos found by someone you know, or maybe even your employer or future employer.

As more and more people get online and start using social networking sites, more and more people are in danger of having their personal lives found out. If you post something about your sex life and your mom found it, you might be devastated. If you post photos of you at a wild party and your boss found it, you could be fired.

Employers and future employers are also using social networking sites and blogs to find out more about you before they hire you. If you're looking for a job, you may want to be careful what you post.

If you want to be really careful that no one finds your personal info online try following these simple rules:

Virtualization in computers refers to setting up an environment in which a complete computer (refered to as the guest machine) is installed on another computer (refered to as the host machine). Microsoft and VMWare provide virtualization programs. In addition if you are interested there is an opensource virtualiztion environment called virtualbox. This is one of the reasons I recommend virtualbox because it works will with linux and you can download and install different versions of linux on it without a worry about licensing. It is also a good way to try out linux. Also the documentation on virtualbox is pretty good.

Is it wise to use adsense for social networking site to make money ?

I am planning to make a social networking web site, so I`m thinking how to make money from it.

Off course I don't have illusions that it will have so many members that I can make money by making my own ad engine. Also I don't want to add banners with pictures to web site (I think it makes it cheap looking) so what would you suggest to do about ads to have some real revenue? Is it wise to use adsense for social networking site to make money ?
    You won't earn much

Why? Because users who go to a social networking site are interested to network, to interact. They are in no mood to buy. Plus, they tend to attract the same users everyday

It's just like a forum -- regular users develop banner ad blindness. Hence they ignore ads. When people ignore your ads, then your CTR is low and you will not earn much

Plus, since the main reason people go to the your site is to interact, not to purchase, you can't expect a high eCPM. Low eCPM means low pay. Worse, you can be subjected to smart pricing where Google devalues the clicks your site gets because of its poor conversion history for advertisers

If you want to earn money from Adsense, create a site where people are ready to buy. One example is a review site.

I think social networking sites can put strain on a relationship. If you have one, watch what you put on their. Never air your dirty laundry(a fight with the spouse). What are your opinions on the new social networking site twitter ?? Is it good or bad for a marriage?
I don't think people can blame social networking sites for putting strains on anything. The strain and insecurities were already there to begin with. That's a common excuse now days. I saw on the news "Facebook ruined my marriage" No, your husband did by using it as a tool to pick up girls. It's like saying Grocery stores are bad for marriage because my friends husband met his mistress there. Stop with the blame game. Blame the person not the venue or site. What are your opinions on the new social networking site twitter ?? Is it good or bad for a marriage?
I don't use Twitter because I can't understand the damn thing, but I do use Facebook, which has been labeled as a relationship destroyer. My husband has a FB account as well, and the first thing we both did was change our status to married to such and such, included the name of our son so there is no hiding information, mistrust or anything. He knows what I do and who I talk to, and viceversa, and so far we've had no troubles. Just keep it honest and clean with your wife, and for your wife. In fact, get her to open an account herself.
If you are married, This is a bad idea for a marriage. You are giving the impression that you are STILL looking......The wife needs to know your intentions. So, don't put yourself in a situation where you will doubt you or not trust you......Once you violate that trust, you can NEVER get it back!

I honestly think facebook could be improved a lot, but it is one of the better social networking sites out there.

Myspace is awful and has lots of ads, which not only slow down your computer, but can contain malware. Facebook also has some annoying ads, but they are nowhere near as irritating as myspace's. Also, users can use HTML coding on their profiles, but because of the poor coding ability of some users, it can cause your browser to crash if coded poorly.

please tell me in detail. What is the salary of hardware and networking system administrator fresher in India?
    Hi there,

Since I have been working in the Networking field for 4 years now, I would recommend you go for CCNA course where in it covers all the basic networking and concepts, rather than doing Hardware %26amp; Networking. You will get better salary package than what you get after doing Hardware %26amp; Networking. You will have to attend the CCNA training from any institute (Search in shiksha.com to see some nice institutes) and then you will need to give an exam for the same. It's only single exam. The latest exam is 640-802. Once you are CCNA Certified, you will get around 12000/- as a fresher. (It also depends on the Company / Your knowledge etc.).

NOTE:- If you are from Mumbai, you may contact me at my given e-mail address to do your CCNA as I also take CCNA lectures. I myself is a faculty for CCNA %26amp; CCNA Security courses. My e-mail ID is harshit.shah@yahoo.com.

Hope this is been informable for you.

    - Harsh

    CHEERS !!!
You have not mentioned what is your qualification ? Is it B.Sc or diploma or B.E.

CCNA is a good course. So is RHCE. Salary will depend on your basic qualification. What is the salary of hardware and networking system administrator fresher in India?
I've been hearing around 6K, sometimes 7.5K. hope this helps!

    Cheers,
well you can do it either from jetking o IIJT...and for job the salary varies between 7-9 thousand for freshers but after you get experienced in this field that you can go long way..What is the salary of hardware and networking system administrator fresher in India?
For fresher starts from 6 thousand. Sometimes even less than 6 thousand.

What is the draw of social networking sites?

With the growing popularity of social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace, there is obviously a desire to connect in a digital format. But what, if anything, is the real desire when logging in. Are we simply seeking to make conncections in a void of internet junk? Are we trying to make our mark on the world in our own way? And if we so often represent ourselves in such an inauthentic way, by using stats, quizzes, photoshopped images of ourselves, why is it so popular? What is the draw of social networking sites?
We are creating a perspective of ourselves that we have total control over and are able to spend as much time planning and executing, unlike in the real world where we have to make decisions on a dime.

On one's facebook or myspace they put out material that they hope will be viewed by others in order to portray certain qualities about themselves. It is almost like "THIS IS ME... UNDERNEATH IT ALL."What is the draw of social networking sites?

What is the draw of social networking sites?
For me, it's just a fun way to stay connected to friends that live far away or I just don't see too often. I'm very conscience to not post something on my myspace profile (or facebook or xanga or yahoo {yes, I have one of each}) that mis-represents me in anyway. After all, I'm using the thing to communicate with people who already know me, not to attract new friends. If I posted a bunch of crap, people would know I was lying about it.

I am writing a debate for an english essay for school. The argument is:

"The benefits of social networking sites outweigh the negative points"

and I am FOR the motion.

If you can answer the questions and/or add another point towards the motion would be great =)

Thank you! Lisa xoWhat percentage of internet users are registered on social networking sites?
The benefits do outweigh the negatives as in getting to interact with people (if you want to call it that , even tho you do not know them) from different parts of the world , find old friends , chat to people all day long , join interest groups , blog for your friends or family (as in if they the other side of the world they can see pics of you on special occassions) , get advice , help others , and probably the most important for people is they get a sense of belonging (as in they shy face to face ) but the negatives are making people lazy (as in staring at a screen all day) , not knowing how to interact with other people (in real life) oh and the biggest is meeting people of it as this is by far the BIGGEST mistake of all as it is a big bad world out there and not every one is rosy and jolly as it is easy to type anything onto a screen

  • Does social networking take the mystery out of life?

I remember the days before facebook, myspace, and twitter. The days when friends went their own separate ways. The days when you could actually miss somebody and wonder what ever happened to them. The days when you could reflect on your past rather than reading your old friend has "a new tattoo". Now with social networking, you will always have access to everybody you've ever know at any time. I feel like social networking is the downfall of human relationships and takes away all the mystery of the people from your past

Do you feel this way and please state your age?Does social networking take the mystery out of life?
18, it's caused me some problems in the past, but I like these sites, I like being able to look at pictures of my family who live in opposite side of the world, so you can have some sort of connection, and it's also a hell of a lot cheaper to talk to people.

But it does have downfalls, like you can't have any private moments, everything you post will be seen by many different people, and sometimes this can have negative effects in the real world, like bitching about workmates and it leading to being fired or something..Does social networking take the mystery out of life?
I disagree, Im fifteen years old and i personally think social networking sites are great! I use facebook on a daily basis and i am constantly updating my status. In my opinion its a positive thing, because you can use it to contact old friends. But also if you were to just meet someone and add the person, youd be able to find out more about them aswell. So in a sense, i do also feel it does take the mystery out of life but in a good way.

Poll: How can someone have a social life without using a social networking site?

I know real life socializing is what keeps friends but social networking sites seem to have become one of the elements in having a lasting friendship.

    What do you think?

Thanks for sharing your opinions!Poll: How can someone have a social life without using a social networking site?
By actually going out to hang with their friends like having sleepovers; sometimes joining the same clubs and athletic groups. Seeing each other at work / school could also be a contributing factor.

I think social networking sites are ruining everything, personally. Instead of going out and having a life, people sit and 'talk' to their 'friends' with those things
LOL I dont have Facebook or Twitter or anything of the like (unless this counts, I dunno), but I still manage to keep up with real friends. Granted, Facebook is a big part of their lives, but I find that you make time for who's important to you. No matter whats trendy at the time.Poll: How can someone have a social life without using a social networking site?
A social life is just going out with friends and having fun. I have a social life and I am not on any of that rubbish
All those kind of things are the worst things to do for friendships
You can still have a social life. Your social life just won't be public.Poll: How can someone have a social life without using a social networking site?
People had social lives before personal computers were even invented.
You could do it the way people did before the internet came along, which is participate in hobbies, and find friends through school or work.
i think that social networking sites like Facebook actually break friendships.

How to persuade people that golf is the ideal sport for business networking?

I have an upcoming assessment and my task is to persuade my class that golf is the ideal sport for business networking.

Can anyone give me some directions? What can i say to persuade them? How to persuade people that golf is the ideal sport for business networking?
Think about it....you're in a confined space (golf cart) with a person for 4-6 hours....if you can't network yourself in that time....you're doing something wrong! How to persuade people that golf is the ideal sport for business networking?
Well go to the PGA Tour website and read off the tournaments. Notice all of the corporate sponsors. Fed Ex Cup. Talk to a business professor. I'm sure they can inform you on how business is conducted on the golf course. Talk about golf scrambles and how they are good fund raisers. Look at all the commercials on TV by the PGA Tour where people are at work and are trying to get out of work to go play golf. Hope this helps. How to persuade people that golf is the ideal sport for business networking?
In the right setting, a golf course can make the perfect location to conduct business. Done the right way, you would have a meal planned in your day at some point, probably dinner. You spend the first 4:30 hours of your day with a prospect just having a good time and gaining repoire with them. Dinner at the course is where you make your deals. Being a professional on the golf course can make your deal. The way that you behave yourself after you just lipped out a 4 foot putt for example. Do you toss your club as if you were with your buddies or do you just give an "Oh well, I dont plan on turning pro anytime soon anyways." Always conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to everyone. Imagine that your mom was on the course with you.

Versus a basketball, hockey, baseball game? All too loud and too much action.

    Good luck
An interesting thing about "corporate golf"

Few, if any deals are actually made or discussed on the golf course. A round of golf will allow you and your partners to evaluate each other in a non corporate, but competitive setting. You should easily be able to decide IF you WANT to potentially work/network with the rest of your foursome.

You will see how a person acts under pressure (first tee, crappy lie, six foot straight put for eagle, etc.) you will see how they deal with adversity (did they go ballistic, blame their club, the sun, a bird's song?) How they deal with winning, losing, their level of respect for the rules - did they improperly improve their ball's lie, etc. How do they treat the course staff? The cart gal? In short, you will see them as a person.

Now THAT is what four or five hours on the course will do. And speaking of five hours, you will also see how patient they are.

Challenge your organization to come up with a better method.

What is more important between networking and college?

When you try to get a job, especially for very good companies, what is more important:

    A. Networking

    B. The undergrad college you come out ofWhat is more important between networking and college?
I'd have to say networking. A college degree is important, but unless it's a very prestigious university (Ivy leagues and others of similar caliber) who you know will probably play a larger role.

Especially with the recession you can really see that people who've been lucky enough to get jobs usually are attached to the company in some way, while many candidates who have been turned down have well respected degrees.

But I'm not 100% sure, especially when dealing with more prestigious companies. Of course, if you have good connections but not a good degree to back it up, you still may end up going nowhere. Like anything, it's going to be a mix between both criteria and well as other factors.

Good luck! What is more important between networking and college?
Well it would depend on the employer and the job but I'm 18 and I got my job with a big comany (which has room for future promotion) through networking, so I'd say networking is important, as also there are some people that can be employed in a higher position but they have less qualifications, or people with bachelors degrees and masters etc being under challenged and under payed. So really, education is important, but it's not the be all and end all of getting a great job. Networking helps a lot! Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

I want a home network which I want one computer to actually connect to the router and modem, and another computer upstairs to have wireless internet from the router via PCI wireless networking card (with antenna).

I was thinking Linksys WRT54G. Any better ideas? Also, is it worth paying $10-20 more for the WRT54GL or the WRT54GS or do these routers perform just as well as the standard 54G.What is the best router for wireless networking?
I always recommend the WRT54G. Mine has been flawless. What is the best router for wireless networking?
See below:What is the best router for wireless networking?
hi gTbAllerZ.... yaikz, ur name is so hard to pronounce...

anyway, I would like to recommend for you to have the better 108mbps wireless router than the usual 54mbps.

There has been plenty of known vendors (3Com, D-Link, Belkin, Linksys, Netgear, etc.) that uses this 108mbps to enhance the throughoutput of the standard 802.11g wireless type.

But don't use the 802.11n devices, because just now I heard rumors saying that the 11n Draft 2.0 (the latest standard of 11n) is going to change and thus effects the devices that have been thrown into the market...

I'm not recommending Linksys products to anyone now, because Cisco (it's parent company) has announced that they'll be discontinuing Linksys brand up until 4-5 years from now.

If money is not a problem for you, go for 3Com or Belkin. 3Com has been known for it's stability and performance, it's the only vendor that doesn't thrown in 802.11n wireless products until the 11n has been ratified (other vendors have been competing to produce 11n products so far). So it shows that 3Com products are for serious users, who cares more of ratified standards and compability. Plus 3Com offer both standard 11g and improved: 108mbps in their devices.

While Belkin produces good looking and good performance wireless routers too, but the price is only slighty lower than 3Com.

I'll recommend D-Link if you're concern for money worth, they have broad range of wireless products for you to choose with considerable price. Their latest devices, the 802.11n wireless devices are showing better and better performance. But since these D-Link's products are still new, they'll cost higher than the standard 802.11g devices.

I don't recommend Netgear and Buffalo, because their performance are vary from products to products.

Good luck, happy shopping %26amp; wireless networking!

What is the difference b/w a networking router and switch?

    Definition of switch:

Network bridge that processes and routes data

    Definition of Router:

a networking device that routes and forwards information. What is the difference b/w a networking router and switch?
a router can assign and translate internet addresses it allows your computer to properly communicate with the cloud ( world internet ) a router is considered a layer 3 device

a switch routes the data after the router efficiently to each computer. a switch does not assign IP addresses.

it all relies on the OSI layers, read about them here: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/osi.ht鈥?/a>
you answered your own question ... confused?

A standard layer 2 switch basically forwards traffic between nodes that are on the same subnet. In order to forward traffic to nodes on separate subnet they need the intervention of a router to forward the traffic for them. So the switch would deliver the traffic to the router and the router would send it on to the other subnet assuming it has a route to said subnet.

However, now there are switches that are much smarter that can actually replace the need for basic routers since they understand layer 3 or IP traffic and can forward between subnets without the intervention of a router. What is the difference b/w a networking router and switch?
I think she wanted to know the difference because she posted 2 similar definitions that absolutely wrong...

A Router is a device that routes information... it contains all the information needed to do NAT... basically it handles non-routable IPs, and NAT allows the real IP on the outside of the network to be shared with as many computers as possible...

A switch has absolutely 100% no ability to do routing... unless... of course you have a very advanced switch, like a Cisco Catalyst, where you can get a card to do the routing... but by definition the catalyst is a switch...

But typically, unless you are very smart, and work with very expensive technology.... a router does the routing and security, and the switch does all of connections... Switch is direct port to port.... where a HUB actually broadcasts all data across all ports... which allows for easy data sniffing...

But usually a router will have like 1-6 ports for various connections... like internet, serial, and a couple of internet ports...

A switch can have hundreds of ports... I have never heard of a router that has more than 10 ports...

    Good luck
Usually you connect ROUTERS to communication lines such as DLS and phone lines. Some routers have spots to connect computers too.

Switches just connect a group of computer, printers or other devices you want to share over a network. What is the difference b/w a networking router and switch?
so whats your point and question?

Actually, most 4 year colleges won't offer such a program. They consider it too specific. The type of program you are looking for tends to only be found at community colleges since it is considered more of a "professional" education.

If you still want to go to a 4 year college, you would be better off majoring in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering. You might be able to take one or two computer network classes but probably not the kind you are thinking of. I want to create a website to be used for social networking just like Facebook so what program do u recommend me to to use to create this site easily without going into all that site coding stuff. What is the best and easiest program to create a social networking website?
All of the above true. If the question you are really after is not becoming a programmer, but just creating something to use for an organization or club and you don't have development dollars then maybe something like Ning.com would work for you, most of the common attributes are there built into their software.

Good luck but what everyone said is true, it takes a ton of work from different talented people to make something like Facebook, Foursquare etc. What is the best and easiest program to create a social networking website?
None, if such thing existed, there would be a thousand Facebook and everyone would try to get as rich as that other guy!

Of course you can't create anything like that without getting your hands dirty in coding, but you could actually do everything with notepad. To create a website more easily, use Dreamweaver. But if you expect to do a Facebook clone without scripting knowledge or a couple thousand dollars to pay for programmers, forget it right now!!! Follow your dreams but don't be idealistic at the point to marginalize the work that was done to create such things!

Simple answer: Dreamweaver, simple to use, no need for strong programming abilities, but you'll need some knowledge of website creation and the hard part (functions) will need some good programmers! What is the best and easiest program to create a social networking website?

What is a good college for Computer Networking and Security?

I am currently a sophomore in high school and I'm beginning to check out colleges so I can find the right one, but I can't find one that has what I want. I'm looking for a college that's good for majoring in Computer Networking/Network Security. Anybody have any suggestions? What is a good college for Computer Networking and Security?
Actually, most 4 year colleges won't offer such a program. They consider it too specific. The type of program you are looking for tends to only be found at community colleges since it is considered more of a "professional" education.

If you still want to go to a 4 year college, you would be better off majoring in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering. You might be able to take one or two computer network classes but probably not the kind you are thinking of. You will probably still need to take professional education after that. What is a good college for Computer Networking and Security?

What is the best and easiest program to create a social networking website?

What is distribted social networking , and how that overcome the problems of centralized websites?

What is distribted social networking , and how that overcome the problems of centralized websitesWhat is distribted social networking , and how that overcome the problems of centralized websites?
Distributed social networking means that the social network is run from multiple servers. the problem that it overcomes is if one server fails then the social network service just rolls over to another server in the distributed model. In a centralized system when the server goes down so does the social network.

  • What do you need to develop your very own social networking site from scratch?

I mean without using websites to make a site. We are making a site that was built from scratch. Like programmers, servers, stuff like that. Our project is making a proposal for a new social networking site (we are not going to make it, just the proposal), so we need to round up the cost of making a brand new site. Our teacher emphasizes that it must be as realistic as possible. What do you need to develop your very own social networking site from scratch?
Well to start with I would say you would need to pay to do market research on your target audience and see what they want.

Then get an office set up with a dedicated internet connection and several servers to host the social networking software and all the databaes for users, email servers, etc.

Then hire out programmers to write the whole social networking site and then test it out on users for feedback / to identify holes in the system, etc.

Then go back to the design and implement any changes, modifications, fix the bugs.

Then spend a hell of a lot of money on publicity to get the site popular and see if you can get contracts with advertisers to get money or sponsorship deals to try and make some cash. What do you need to develop your very own social networking site from scratch?
Start off seeking the contract prices the ISP wants to host ASP or Apache/php.

From there, price Microsoft server product licenses (the Apache / Linux will be free).

Research hourly rates for php, DBA, grahic artist.

Draw on paper a mockup of the log-on page.

What is the average cost to have a social networking website design for us, like Facebook/MySpace?

We are looking to start a business for a social networking website, similar to Facebook/Myspace. We want to get an idea of how much it would cost to get the website design, hosting, and any other costs associated with running an online company. Thank you. What is the average cost to have a social networking website design for us, like Facebook/MySpace?
    not a whole lot,,,

$100-120 for hosting service per year

free-$250 for 'Facebook/Myspace' script, depending on what you website you want to look like, one time fee

$$$$-lot of money for advertising...your biggest expense

    trust me that's about it.
Other than hosting, you can do the rest for free. There are many tutorials that can teach you how to do those things. It would take a lot of time and effort, but if you're willing to put in that time and effort, you can save money. Otherwise, you can pay people to do it for you. Advertising can be expensive, but you could probably easily make up the cost by advertising other businesses on your website. If it ever got very popular, to the level of Myspace/Facebook, you could charge a lot of money for advertising space. What is the average cost to have a social networking website design for us, like Facebook/MySpace?
I have a similar site to Myspace but with alot less features (which I will add as I get more members). I used Dolphin, which is a free program, but you have to pay for each extra feature, so all in all, the whole program with all the features would cost around $1,000. I don't know how much someone would charge to install it though. Im not a designer but I would charge $50-$300 for no design to basic designing. The site itself is free if you don't mind having a Dolphin ad at the bottom of the screen, without all the cool features like mp3 uploads, video uploads etc. The basic free site has member profiles, picture upload, classified section, I believe Instant Messenger (may be an extra though, I havent tried to set it up yet). You can worry about servers once you get the members and transfer over. If you are starting out small then that doesnt matter now. Nobody is just going to instantly have the amount of members Myspace and Facebook has right off the bat.
Not only would the website design be expensive, as it will take alot of scripting and coding to make a social networking site, such as codes to upload pictures, comments etc. Also hosting would be very expensive as you have to have alot of web space, almost unlimited traffic etc.

Got more questions? visit my site! What is the average cost to have a social networking website design for us, like Facebook/MySpace?
you would have to be running many servers. the network has to be safe so you also need scurity. it would pay of in the long run so i think its worth paying the money.

or you cam always get it free here on this link its the same thing like myspace and face book

    http://www.ning.com/

you should thank me i just saved you lots of $$$$$
if you talking about spical system for you like facebook it will cost you 30,000$ , with designed but without hosting.
you have to have your own server and ...no, go to sitepoint and pick one already done. You will see the price and all they have. Sitepoint.com |Marketplace

For a professional facebook or myspace website written from scratch, you'd be talking about 拢250,000+.

I don't think your going to get a unique "free download" script for that sort of thing.

What technology is used to start a social networking site?

A friend and I at school are planning to open a social networking site. We have the specifics charted out, and are on the lookout for people with computer skills to help us. We were wondering what computer equipment we might be needing initially. We have come up with a rough draft, listing 5 computers, 2 servers and database administrator software, but are unsure if these would suffice. We appreciate any help in this direction. What technology is used to start a social networking site?
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting %26amp; I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

In all honesty it depends on what your target is. If you are looking at a myspace type thing you would of course need something A LOT larder than what you have lol. But for a small network that is good. What i would recommend though is that you go and check out the scripts that are floating around the net. They are a perfect place to start experimenting. just google "social network scripts"

  • What is the cost of running a social networking website?

I am working on a project to build a social networking web site from scratch using oracle database and an application server like Tomcat. Can any one with prior experience let me know what is the total cost I can expect to incur in execution of this project? Assumption is that this website will be able to support several million users. What is the cost of running a social networking website?
I have a few experience in social network developments.

Before all, be aware that very few are successful: 99.9% of attempts go down the drain within a year.

Why? Because they are not ADVERTISED by any other means than the web. In other words, if they are not advertised using other medias (tV, radio, papers etc), they do not survive.

    So, what is the cost?

A relatively complex social network will cost a few grands to set-up (expect 3-6k minimum for a "decent" site).

To the cost of development, of course, you have to add the domain and the server(s). At start, this is nearly "free": for $100, you have all you need.

Once set-up and fully tested, it needs to be promoted.

Here come the costs. It depends of the type of network you do. A SN for dentists, for example, will need to be advertised in all the specialised magazines for dentists, and that is not cheap.

You want a Facebook? You need a MASSIVE start-up for a few months, on TV and many other medias.

Fail that, and it simply "won't start".

    But...

It HAS started, and you get a few thousands members...

The cost of your server will increase dramatically: you need dedicated server at start, and, once you reach the millions, a server FARM (more than one server).

It becomes worldwide? You need servers in different countries... and in different languages!

That means a TEAM of coders, available 24/7, to respond to the demand.

That, also, means powerful BANDWIDTH, a very expensive requirement. A SN like second-life pays several $1000's PER DAY for their bandwidth... But with 35,000 concurrent visitors a day, each one paying a few $... They are covered!

SN like Y!A are successful, because supported by big, large, powerful multinational companies.

In the end, a successful SN can only survice if it becomes a heavy business, with staff, infrastructure, admin and legal department.

That is a totally different ball game as making your own, little "Y!A" on your local server.

Successful websites (SN or not), are supported by serious money and professional staff.

Or they are not successful and go to oblivion a few months after birth.

Several million users? Between 2 and 5 million $ of investment. And 25% of turnover a year profit.

What is the Main Social Networking Site that you primarily Use and Why?

Hello im conducting a study about social networking.

Basically i just want to know:

    1. How has Social Networking changed your life?

    2. What is the Main Social Networking Site that you primarily Use and Why?What is the Main Social Networking Site that you primarily Use and Why?
facebook. its a general setup you can add more pictures and say more unlike twitter

its actually kind of a burden, you know way more then you should/want to about people.
    1. It allows me to stay in touch with people that I might have gone a long time without talking to, especially friends and family from out of town.

    2. Facebook. Mainly just because it's the network that everyone else is on, but also because it doesn't have all the annoying customizable pages like MySpace/Friendster/others, and it allows you to block wall posts from annoying applications. Plus, it's integrated into a lot of websites now, so you can "like" things or "comment" on things that you see all over the net, like on news sites, etc. What is the Main Social Networking Site that you primarily Use and Why?
1 - It really hasn't. It makes it a fraction easier to communicate with people, but that's about it.

2 - Facebook or Twitter. I love the simplicity or Twitter [unless you get really into it] and Facebook is an easy way to stay in touch with people long distance, and is more in depth than texting, emailing, or talking over the phone.

Still though, nothing beats a good chat to someone face to face :)
    1. It helps me talk to my friends no matter how far away they are, it helps me get informed about new technologies which interest me greatly and helps me view porn (if you're a guy, you'll understand)

    2. Furaffinity.net because I'm a furry and so are most of my friends. What is the Main Social Networking Site that you primarily Use and Why?
    Tumblr and y'know why? because it's L.I.F.E!

What would be an ideal social networking site for a guy with no friends?

I have no friends online and would like to make some. What social networking site, if any, is ideal for me.What would be an ideal social networking site for a guy with no friends?
