I want to create a social networking site. What's the best social networking tool to use to create one?
Can anyone list the best tools (ie. easy, user-friendly, and diversity add-ons) to creating a social networking site?

I am in Australia but I have heard of people using database servers based in the U.S. simply because it is cheaper than the database servers in Australia.I want to create a social networking site. All "offers" of SN are crap and go nowhere.

Safe mode with networking does not work on my computer?
I shut down the computer then press f8, when an option comes up I press start safe mode with networking. A few seconds later another screen comes up and says it failed an that I can only start the computer normally. Nothing works when im using the computer, everything is blocked including the alt ctrl delete. Whenever I try to open something it says that the application is infected. What is the best way to learn computer networking?
I am not at all savvy on computer networking. I only know how to write, log, surf and download etc. but I have near zero knowledge in networking. Is there a soft ware or hardware that will visually show me step by step to to troubleshoot and basically teach me how to maintain my network running? I prefer visual rather than techically phrased, since I am so stupid in technical terminology.
Your advice will be appreciated.

You are at work and your employer has a policy against social networking..etc. But the suspense is killing you, plus you aren't too busy on this day. My husband has a FB account as well, and the first thing we both did was change our status to married to such and such, included the name of our son so there is no hiding information, mistrust or anything. He knows what I do and who I talk to, and viceversa, and so far we've had no troubles. Just keep it honest and clean with your wife, and for your wife. In fact, get her to open an account herself.

Since I have been working in the Networking field for 4 years now, I would recommend you go for CCNA course where in it covers all the basic networking and concepts, rather than doing Hardware %26amp; Networking. You will get better salary package than what you get after doing Hardware %26amp; Networking. You will have to attend the CCNA training from any institute (Search in shiksha.com to see some nice institutes) and then you will need to give an exam for the same. It's only single exam. The latest exam is 640-802. Once you are CCNA Certified, you will get around 12000/- as a fresher. (It also depends on the Company / Your knowledge etc.).

The benefits do outweigh the negatives as in getting to interact with people (if you want to call it that , even tho you do not know them) from different parts of the world , find old friends , chat to people all day long , join interest groups , blog for your friends or family (as in if they the other side of the world they can see pics of you on special occassions) , get advice , help others , and probably the most important for people is they get a sense of belonging (as in they shy face to face ) but the negatives are making people lazy (as in staring at a screen all day) , not knowing how to interact with other people (in real life) oh and the biggest is meeting people of it as this is by far the BIGGEST mistake of all as it is a big bad world out there and not every one is rosy and jolly as it is easy to type anything onto a screen

Does social networking take the mystery out of life?
I remember the days before facebook, myspace, and twitter. The days when friends went their own separate ways. The days when you could actually miss somebody and wonder what ever happened to them. The days when you could reflect on your past rather than reading your old friend has "a new tattoo". Now with social networking, you will always have access to everybody you've ever know at any time. I feel like social networking is the downfall of human relationships and takes away all the mystery of the people from your past

I'm sure they can inform you on how business is conducted on the golf course. Talk about golf scrambles and how they are good fund raisers. Look at all the commercials on TV by the PGA Tour where people are at work and are trying to get out of work to go play golf. Being a professional on the golf course can make your deal. The way that you behave yourself after you just lipped out a 4 foot putt for example. Do you toss your club as if you were with your buddies or do you just give an "Oh well, I dont plan on turning pro anytime soon anyways." Always conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to everyone. Imagine that your mom was on the course with you.
Versus a basketball, hockey, baseball game? All too loud and too much action.

Few, if any deals are actually made or discussed on the golf course. A round of golf will allow you and your partners to evaluate each other in a non corporate, but competitive setting. You should easily be able to decide IF you WANT to potentially work/network with the rest of your foursome.
You will see how a person acts under pressure (first tee, crappy lie, six foot straight put for eagle, etc.) you will see how they deal with adversity (did they go ballistic, blame their club, the sun, a bird's song?) How they deal with winning, losing, their level of respect for the rules - did they improperly improve their ball's lie, etc. How do they treat the course staff? The cart gal? In short, you will see them as a person.
Now THAT is what four or five hours on the course will do. And speaking of five hours, you will also see how patient they are.
Challenge your organization to come up with a better method.

you can chat with your friends from high school that you can't see from far away, you can connect to others thru them to meet theu say classmates to facebook. as I do so they are friendly. I have met alot of really nice people and I have met some other really interesting people as well. If you don't want them to know much about your self just don't give out where you live, states are usually ok but not the zip codes, town name or location. , best bet do not post any sexy photo's on these sites, also do not tell them your phone number, or your address. do not post childrens photo's here at all. Unless you are in the picture. I changed this picture but seems like it came back.

When you try to get a job, especially for very good companies, what is more important:
A. Networking

I'd have to say networking. A college degree is important, but unless it's a very prestigious university (Ivy leagues and others of similar caliber) who you know will probably play a larger role.
Especially with the recession you can really see that people who've been lucky enough to get jobs usually are attached to the company in some way, while many candidates who have been turned down have well respected degrees.
But I'm not 100% sure, especially when dealing with more prestigious companies. Of course, if you have good connections but not a good degree to back it up, you still may end up going nowhere. Like anything, it's going to be a mix between both criteria and well as other factors.

What is the best router for wireless networking?
I want a home network which I want one computer to actually connect to the router and modem, and another computer upstairs to have wireless internet from the router via PCI wireless networking card (with antenna).

There has been plenty of known vendors (3Com, D-Link, Belkin, Linksys, Netgear, etc.) that uses this 108mbps to enhance the throughoutput of the standard 802.11g wireless type.
But don't use the 802.11n devices, because just now I heard rumors saying that the 11n Draft 2.0 (the latest standard of 11n) is going to change and thus effects the devices that have been thrown into the market...
I'm not recommending Linksys products to anyone now, because Cisco (it's parent company) has announced that they'll be discontinuing Linksys brand up until 4-5 years from now.
If money is not a problem for you, go for 3Com or Belkin. 3Com has been known for it's stability and performance, it's the only vendor that doesn't thrown in 802.11n wireless products until the 11n has been ratified (other vendors have been competing to produce 11n products so far). So it shows that 3Com products are for serious users, who cares more of ratified standards and compability. Plus 3Com offer both standard 11g and improved: 108mbps in their devices.
While Belkin produces good looking and good performance wireless routers too, but the price is only slighty lower than 3Com.
I'll recommend D-Link if you're concern for money worth, they have broad range of wireless products for you to choose with considerable price. What is an awesome source to learn about computer languages and networking?
Alright, so I'm 15 right now, and I know some things about computers (more than a lot of kids my age) but not as much as some.
I see these news stories about 16 year olds who are either writing these big computer things or hacking into massive websites. I don't want to hack or anything, but I'd like to have all of this knowledge of networking.

I see these news stories about 16 year olds who are either writing these big computer things or hacking into massive websites. I don't want to hack or anything, but I'd like to have all of this knowledge of networking.

I have a similar site to Myspace but with alot less features (which I will add as I get more members). I used Dolphin, which is a free program, but you have to pay for each extra feature, so all in all, the whole program with all the features would cost around $1,000. I don't know how much someone would charge to install it though. Im not a designer but I would charge $50-$300 for no design to basic designing.The site itself is free if you don't mind having a Dolphin ad at the bottom of the screen, without all the cool features like mp3 uploads, video uploads etc. The basic free site has member profiles, picture upload, classified section, I believe Instant Messenger (may be an extra though, I havent tried to set it up yet). You can worry about servers once you get the members and transfer over. If you are starting out small then that doesnt matter now. Nobody is just going to instantly have the amount of members Myspace and Facebook has right off the bat.

In all honesty it depends on what your target is. If you are looking at a myspace type thing you would of course need something A LOT larder than what you have lol. But for a small network that is good. What i would recommend though is that you go and check out the scripts that are floating around the net. I am working on a project to build a social networking web site from scratch using oracle database and an application server like Tomcat. I have a few experience in social network developments.
Before all, be aware that very few are successful: 99.9% of attempts go down the drain within a year.
Why? Because they are not ADVERTISED by any other means than the web. In other words, if they are not advertised using other medias (tV, radio, papers etc), they do not survive.
So, what is the cost?
A relatively complex social network will cost a few grands to set-up (expect 3-6k minimum for a "decent" site).
To the cost of development, of course, you have to add the domain and the server(s). At start, this is nearly "free": for $100, you have all you need.
Once set-up and fully tested, it needs to be promoted.
Here come the costs. It depends of the type of network you do. A SN for dentists, for example, will need to be advertised in all the specialised magazines for dentists, and that is not cheap.
You want a Facebook? You need a MASSIVE start-up for a few months, on TV and many other medias.
Fail that, and it simply "won't start".
But...
It HAS started, and you get a few thousands members...
The cost of your server will increase dramatically: you need dedicated server at start, and, once you reach the millions, a server FARM (more than one server).
It becomes worldwide? You need servers in different countries... and in different languages!

Mainly just because it's the network that everyone else is on, but also because it doesn't have all the annoying customizable pages like MySpace/Friendster/others, and it allows you to block wall posts from annoying applications. Still though, nothing beats a good chat to someone face to face :)
